Christopher Cross burst onto the music scene with his 1980 self-titled debut album. Lead single “Ride Like the Wind” hit number two on the Billboard Hot 100, and “Sailing” made him a superstar. The record won five Grammy Awards, including, for the first time in Grammy history, the prestigious Big Four: Record of the Year (for “Sailing”), Song of the Year (also “Sailing”), Album of the Year, and Best New Artist.
Cross’s series of smoothly sophisticated ballads helped define adult contemporary radio in the 1980s. In a career spanning more than four decades, Cross has sold more than 10 million albums.
