Singer-songwriter John Stewart spent a lifetime writing and recording songs that chronicled the unique people and culture of America. Stewart was known for his contributions to the American folk music movement of the 1960s while a member of the Kingston Trio, and he wrote the Monkees’ number one hit “Daydream Believer.” He had Top 40 hits in the 1970s and ’80s with “Gold,” “Midnight Wind,” and “Lost Her in the Sun,” and he has written songs for Rosanne Cash, Joan Baez, Nancy Griffith, Albert Lee, and many others.
Stewart was popular in Phoenix thanks to airplay from the legendary radio DJ Bill Compton, and he recorded his landmark live double LP The Phoenix Concerts at Phoenix Symphony Hall. Stewart died in 2008, but his band of 25 years regroups every year to celebrate his vast catalog. This special concert will celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Phoenix Concerts.
