Sanchez does what all artists, regardless of genre or medium, aspire to do: he expertly uses the tools at his command to communicate, sending a complex yet clear message.

Three-time Grammy Award–winner Antonio Sanchez is considered by many critics and musicians alike as one of the most prominent drummers of his generation. Sanchez has performed and recorded with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Pat Metheny (he’s a member of the Pat Metheny Group and the Pat Metheny Trio with Christian McBride), Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Charlie Haden, Gary Burton, and Toots Thielemans.
His current touring project builds on his recordings and film work. It is a passionate and moving statement from an artist who sees music as a means to bridge differences and build understanding. “With all the political turmoil and ethnic violence that is permeating the country and the world,” writes Sanchez, “it’s been impossible for me not to pay much closer attention to what being a brown-skinned immigrant with a Latin name from a third-world country means to me, as well as the implications for my family and my future children.”
In addition to his touring and composing, Sanchez is on the faculty of New York University (NYU). He is endorsed by Yamaha Drums, Zildjian (which carries Sanchez’s signature model cymbals and sticks), Evans Drumheads, and LP Percussion (which carries Sanchez’s signature percussion kit).
