Instrument Spotlight: Electric Guitars 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Try your hand at the electric guitar, an iconic instrument of rock and roll since the 1950s and 1960s, then check out the guitars in the Rock and Roll display in the United States / Canada Gallery.
Photo Booth 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. “Rock on” at MIM’s custom photo booth! Have your picture taken with fun musical props and instantly get your own copy to take home.
Pop-up Performance: Rock Anthem 10:00–10:10 a.m. Conrad Varela, winner of Alice Cooper’s 2018 “Proof is in the Pudding” music competition, kicks the day off with an electrifying guitar performance in MIM’s lobby.
Film Screening and Director’s Q&A: The Wrecking Crew 10:30 a.m.–12:45 p.m. (Sunday) Stop in for a screening of award-winning 2008 rockumentary The Wrecking Crew, a musical tribute to the popular session musicians responsible for thousands of recordings during the 1960s and 1970s.
Stick around after the screening for a question and answer session with Denny Tedesco, the producer and director of the film and son of Wrecking Crew guitarist Tommy Tedesco.
Conversation with Danny Zelisko 11:00 a.m.–noon (Saturday) Prominent southwest concert presenter Danny Zelisko joins MIM curator Richard Walter, PhD, for a conversation about the worldwide phenomenon that is rock and roll. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear an insider’s perspective on the ever-changing music industry!
Curator’s Mini-Tour: Woodstock 1:00–1:15 p.m. (Saturday) Join MIM curator Richard Walter, PhD, to learn about the acquisition of several iconic instruments during this short tour of MIM’s brand-new Woodstock display.
Music-Making Workshop 1:30–2:15 p.m. Play a few classic hit tunes on a Loog guitar in this family-friendly jam session facilitated by Loog specialist German Wegbrait. These instruments are fun to play and the perfect size for all ages!
Curator’s Mini-Tour: Rock and Roll 2:30–2:45 p.m. Head upstairs to check out some of the iconic instruments featured in our galleries during this short exploration of the Rock and Roll display with curator Richard Walter, PhD.
Performance by Josh West 3:15–4:00 p.m. The legacy of rock music lives on as Josh West, local singer-songwriter and former contestant on NBC’s The Voice, brings a dynamic performance of alternative rock to the MIM stage.
