It’s rare to find someone capable of injecting such life into every single lyric.

Much like famed French singer Edith Piaf, Madeleine Peyroux spent her teenage years busking on the busy streets of Paris. Like Piaf, Peyroux, who was born in Georgia but moved to Paris when she was 13, befriended the city’s street musicians and made its Latin Quarter her first performing stage. Years later, Peyroux would cite Piaf as an influence on her music and record a rendition of the classic “La Vie en Rose,” soulfully capturing the tune’s romanticism and melancholy.
Thirty years after her formative busking days, Peyroux has released nine beguiling albums and is an accomplished performer with sold-out worldwide tours under her belt. Her atmospheric version of Serge Gainsborough’s “La Javanaise” was used in the soundtrack of the Oscar-winning film The Shape of Water, and her countless accolades include the coveted BBC International Artist of the Year honor. Her thirst for creative exploration is unfading, and her repertoire encompasses traditional acoustic jazz and blues and her own eclectic folk- and pop-leaning originals.
