Sound and music are wonderful mechanisms for introducing STEM concepts in early childhood. Early childhood (from birth through age 8) educators will learn how to engage students in scientific exploration, observation, investigation, and analysis with the use of play and age-appropriate STEM projects. Participants will receive a set of developmentally appropriate lesson plans inspired by MIM’s collection, with a focus on the Collier STEM Gallery.
Participants receive a certificate for tracking professional development hours and a resource packet. On the day of the session, teachers can tour the museum and continue developing lesson plan ideas. This session augments MIM’s Sounds All Around, Musical Menagerie, and the self-guided Trailblazer field trips.

The PD was well balanced. Lecture, hands-on activities, guided tour and exploration. I came away feeling confident that I can make a field trip very worth the students’ STEM education.
